Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement
MESA is an initiative that promotes mathematic and science literacy among ethnic groups that have been under represented in the areas of math and science in both industry and education. MESA was founded in 1970 at the University of California at Berkeley and has grown into a seven state (Arizona, California, Colorado, Maryland, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Washington) organization known as MESA-USA.
The MESA organization is a partnership involving school districts, institutions of higher learning, federal and state agencies, and private business. MESA-USA chapters are active at all grade levels K-16 and last year serviced approximately 36,000 students.
